Quick answer: The Shasta Vent 6" Thru-the-Wall Kit includes the finishing collar, an 8" Class A pipe section, wall thimble, tee with cleanout cap, tee support, two adjustable wall brackets and a chimney cap. You add the Class A pipe sections that run up the outside wall, plus the connector (stove) pipe from your stove to the wall.
A through-the-wall chimney is the most popular way to vent a wood stove in a home that's already built. You don't cut through a ceiling, an attic or an upstairs room. The pipe goes straight out the wall, turns up at a tee, and runs up the outside of the house. The kit puts all the hard-to-source parts in one box, so the only real decision left is how much pipe to add.

What else you need to order
- Class A chimney pipe sections for the vertical run up the outside wall. Shop 6" Class A chimney pipe.
- Connector (stove) pipe from your stove's flue collar to the chimney where it comes through the wall. Use the type and clearances your stove manual calls for. Shasta Vent doesn't sell connector pipe.
- Extra wall brackets if your vertical run is long. You need a bracket at least every 10 ft. Find them in support brackets.
- An elbow kit only if the chimney has to step out around a roof overhang. See chimney elbows.
- Bracing above the roof if the chimney rises more than 5 ft above the roofline. Add support every 5 ft or less after that.
How much chimney pipe to add
Your chimney has to end at least 3 ft above the point where it passes the roof and 2 ft higher than anything within 10 ft (the 3-2-10 rule). Measure from the tee to that height. Then add up pipe sections until you reach it.
Each section adds 1" less than its listed length, because the joints overlap. A 48" section adds 47". Class A pipe can't be cut, so round up, or use the adjustable pipe (11"–20") to fine-tune.
Example: The chimney has to rise 18 ft (216") from the tee. Four 48" sections add 188". One 39" section adds 38", for 226" in total. That clears the target, so order 4 × 48" and 1 × 39".

Before you order, check these four things
- Stove outlet size. Order 6" only if your stove's flue collar is 6". Never reduce. For an 8" outlet, order the 8" Thru-the-Wall Kit.
- Wall depth. The thimble fits walls up to 10" deep. A thicker wall needs a field-made 26-gauge sleeve.
- Framed opening. Frame a 12-1/4" × 12-1/4" opening in the wall for the 6" thimble.
- Clearances. Keep a 2" air gap between the chimney and anything combustible. Don't fill that gap with insulation.
Frequently asked questions
Does the thru-the-wall kit include chimney pipe? It includes one 8" section for the wall pass-through. The pipe that runs up the outside wall is ordered separately, because every house needs a different height.
Do I need a tee support if I have wall brackets? Yes. The tee support carries the chimney's weight. Wall brackets only keep it steady, and they don't carry any weight.
Can the kit go through a thick log or masonry wall? The thimble handles walls up to 10" deep. For deeper walls, extend it with a 26-gauge sheet-metal sleeve. Don't fill the air space.
Is through-the-wall cheaper than through-the-roof? Often, because you skip the ceiling, attic and roof-flashing work. Compare both in our through-the-wall install guide.
What can I vent with it? Shasta Vent All-Fuel HT is listed for natural-draft stoves, fireplaces, furnaces and boilers burning wood, coal, oil or gas.
